WERTHER, CHÉNIER, FLORESTAN
Steven Harrisons's recent "Werther" in South Africa was acclaimed as "a uniquely moving, highly emotional experience," following a great success with the same role in Germany. Capetown critic Barry Smith wrote: "Steven Harrison has an immaculate feeling for the idiom and produces singing and acting of an extremely high standard. He is a musician who understands exactly what the music is trying to say and delivers it with fastidious attention to detail."
During June and July Steven is in Cagliari, Italy for his second Italian production of "Andrea Chénier." This favorite role of the greatest Italian tenors has a special place in Steven's heart and he is honored to perform it yet again in the country of its origin.
The American tenor adds yet another 'national legacy' role to his wide repertoire with his first Florestan (in Beethoven's "Fidelio") at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein later this year.
This tryptich of three diverse and important characterizations will be further enhanced when Steven sings for the first time in Polish - Szymanowski Symphony #3 for Solo Tenor (Song of the Night), under Jonathon Darlington. The pair enjoyed a highly succesful collaboration in "Cavalleria Rusticana" last year at Vancouver Opera, and Maestro Darlington specifically requested Steven for this new project.
